Colibrì System

With Colibrì System all the benefits of underground irrigation are finally available for the small garden. A simple and helpful idea, because it was developed specifically for the DIY market. A comprehensive system that includes all the parts required: Colibrì pop-up micro-sprinklers, 1/2" main tube made of polyethylene, compression connectors to create any shape of circuit, the specific drainage valve to protect the system from freezing winter temperatures, and the battery-powered timer that ensures the lawn and garden are watered at the best possible time of the day, even when you’re away or on holiday. All this comes with one more benefit: Claber ISO 9001 certified quality.
Colibrì System is specifically designed for gardens from 50m² to 200m². As you can see from these examples, you can cover any area to perfection by choosing the right combination of micro-sprinklers: 90°, 180° and 360° types. Irrigating with the right quantity of water is good for the garden and also makes for important water savings. Water is a precious resource and thanks to the versatility, uniformity of irrigation and low pressure requirements of Colibrì System micro-sprinklers, you can be sure you are using it to its best advantage. In addition, you can program the best irrigation times also in relation to the climate and the type of garden, with the assistance of the water requirements table.
Colibrì micro-sprinklers also work at low pressure thanks to the exclusive turbine with jet breaker.

Plan the system

To plan your system, take the scale drawing of the garden and use a compass to draw circles (360°) or segments of circles (90° and 180°) corresponding to the areas you wish to water, as shown in the example alongside. To get the best results, 90° sprinklers must be positioned at the corners of the garden, 180° sprinklers should be positioned around the edge of the garden or the house, and 360° sprinklers in the unoccupied areas. At this point plot the path of the main tube in order to establish the length. Do not exceed the maximum length of 18-19m for each line and keep the tube path as straight as possible.
For the working pressure and performance characteristics of each sprinkler refer to the table.
Calculate the consumption of the sprinklers to be included in each line on the basis of the available water supply.

Layout examples Practical DIY installation

To install Colibrì System, use this simple procedure. First of all insert stakes at the points where the sprinklers are to be installed. Then join all the stakes with a string in order to plot the route of the main tube. Now take a spade and make a channel to the same depth as the blade length.
There’s no need to dig: simply push in the spade and rock the blade back and forth in the cut to create sufficient space for tube, without removing soil or damaging the lawn.

1) main tube

Once you’ve made the cut connect the 1/2" tube to the timer and then extend it along the prepared path, proceeding up to the first stake. Cut the tube to length with a pair of scissors and insert the specific threaded Tee fitting.

2) micro-sprinklers

Screw the micro-sprinkler into the fitting and secure it temporarily to the stake, e.g. with a length of insulating tape. Proceed with another section of tube and another micro-sprinkler until you have completed the entire circuit with the last micro-sprinkler in the line or with a drain valve or an end stopper.
Before installing the drain valve it is good practice to run water through the tube to eliminate any debris that may have entered during the installation procedures.

3) testing

Before inserting the tube into the channel, test the system. Turn on the tap and make sure the areas to be watered are perfectly covered by the 90°, 180° and 360° micro-sprinklers: if they are not, adjust the throw or working angle.

4) burial

At this point simply drop the tube with the micro-sprinklers into the channel and remove the stakes. Tamp down the soil with your feet: in a few days’ time there should be no trace of the work visible on the surface of the lawn.

5) adjusting the jet

Colibrì System micro-sprinklers allow simply and precise adjustment of the throw, i.e. the distance covered by the jet, and the position of the working angle (for the 90° and 180° models). For the former adjustment simply remove the top of the micro-sprinkler and turn the screw using a 3 mm Allen key, while to position the jet angle correctly simply lift and rotate the micro-sprinkler rigid riser. Remember to perform both these operations before burying the circuit: also consider that the micro-sprinkler is factory-set at the maximum throw.

6) angle adjustment

This adjustment must be made while the system is in operation.

7) guard collar

For correct installation of Colibrì sprinklers consider fitting a guard collar P/N 90250, as shown in the example alongside; this device prevents sand and small stones in the soil from interfering with the sprinkler.

Recommendations for use

MAIN REQUIREMENTS:

  • Area to water: 200m² max
  • Shape of area: regular (rectangular or square).
  • Water connection to outside tap (not located in a pit).
  • Recommended water supply: mains (no well - no pump)
  • Water supply characteristics: minimum flow rate of 16-18 l/min, pressure 2 bar
  • Garden width at least 3.5-4 m.

N.B.: the system will provide the best performance at night when the water supply availability is greater.

Technical specifications

Range of throw: min throw 3.5 m – max 4.5 m. N.b.: a 30-40 cm wide area behind the sprinkler will also be watered. Tube: 1/2” main tube, max length 18-19 m.
Caution: Colibrì sprinklers cannot under any circumstances be installed on a line incorporating other types of sprinklers (pop-up – turbine – mini-rotor – micro-sprinkler).

Winter protection

Before the first winter frost arrives disconnect your timer from the tap and take it indoors; it can be stowed in a handy cupboard or in the garage, but first remember to remove the battery and discard it at an authorized battery collection point.
Next spring just fit a new alkaline battery.
