Proper irrigation involves not only satisfying the requirements of plants, but also preventing waste – in the overall cost of the irrigation system as much as in water consumption. For this reason, the system must be designed so that all water loss is minimised, during procurement as well as during distribution.
Before actually penetrating to the roots of plants, water can run off the surface, evaporate into the air, or simply not reach the right place. Claber research is dedicated however to maximising irrigation efficiency, that is the ratio of the quantity of water dispensed to the quantity effectively used by the plants.
The water systems affording the highest degree of efficiency are sprinkle and drip irrigation systems. The latter system was developed in Israel in the 1970s, precisely with the aim of assuring lower water consumption and maximising agricultural productivity in the face of especially problematic land and climatic conditions. And indeed, savings of as much as 40% can be attained.
Besides making domestic watering applications much easier, electronic timing systems make a significant contribution to limiting water consumption. All it takes is a battery-powered timer to set precisely the required amount of water, to be distributed at the best time of day – usually after sunset or at dawn, when evaporation is minimum. A tiny investment that affords exceptional reliability, versatility and operating simplicity: all thanks to Claber. |
